Cultural & Historical Context
David’s vow reflects the ancient Israelite understanding of God’s presence dwelling among His people, notably in the tabernacle and later the temple. The quest for a permanent sanctuary was central to Israel’s identity and worship (Exodus 25:8; 1 Chronicles 28:2). This passage echoes the deep longing for God’s manifest presence to dwell securely among His people.
