Psalms 41 · Berean Standard Bible
1Blessed is the one who cares for the poor; the LORD will deliver him in the day of trouble. 2The LORD will protect and preserve him; He will bless him in the land and refuse to surrender him to the will of his foes. 3The LORD will sustain him on his bed of illness and restore him from his bed of sickness. 4I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against You.” 5My enemies say with malice: “When will he die and be forgotten?” 6My visitor speaks falsehood; he gathers slander in his heart; he goes out and spreads it abroad. 7All who hate me whisper against me; they imagine the worst for me: 8“A vile disease has been poured into him; he will never get up from where he lies!” 9Even my close friend whom I trusted, the one who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. 10But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, that I may repay them. 11By this I know that You delight in me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. 12In my integrity You uphold me and set me in Your presence forever. 13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

The psalm reflects the belief that God honors such mercy with protection (cf. Proverbs 14:31). The image of God making one’s bed in sickness evokes intimate divine care uncommon in pagan thought.

Song

Psalms 41 Song

Verse 1:

Blessed are the merciful, who see the poor and care, In trouble’s darkest hour, the Lord will answer prayer. He guards the weak and weary, preserves them through the night, And in their bed of sickness, He brings restoring light.

Verse 2:

My foes speak lies and whisper, their hearts are filled with spite, They wish my name forgotten, my days consumed by night. Yet even in my weakness, Your favor is my shield, My enemies shall falter, before Your throne I yield.

Chorus:

Oh Lord, be merciful, heal my soul within, Though enemies surround me, Your mercy will not end. Though friends may turn their heel, Your love will never fail, I stand upheld in You, my God, my rock, my veil.

Bridge:

Though betrayed and broken, I will trust Your hand, You lift me from the shadows, and make me firmly stand. Integrity my banner, before Your face I dwell, Forever in Your presence, my refuge and my well.

Final Chorus:

Oh Lord, be merciful, heal my soul within, Though enemies surround me, Your mercy will not end. Though friends may turn their heel, Your love will never fail, I stand upheld in You, my God, my rock, my veil.
